- The Hawaiian singer-songwriter is also a professional surfer and was the youngest invitee to surf the Pipe trial in Hawaii.
- Johnson was in a bad surfing accident when he was just 17 years old. He had his front teeth knocked out and needed 150 stitches.
- Although he learned to play guitar at age 14, Johnson did not begin writing songs until he studied film at the University of California at Santa Barbara.
