- Kevin Devine was in the post-punk band Miracle of '86, a reference to his favorite baseball team, the New York Mets.
- Before relocating to Brooklyn, he was part of the Staten Island indie scene with the Realistics and Awek (both of which included members of the indie-folk band Pablo).
- The singer-songwriter-guitarist graduated from Fordham University in 2001 with a degree in journalism.
