Latin-ska-funk-jazz-rock sextet the Cat Empire, from Melbourne, Australia, formed in 1999 as a three-piece.
The band often supplements its sound with a rotating crew of of guest musicians, who perform horn, string and percussion duties.
Their second album, 2005's 'Two Shoes,' was recorded at the renowned Egrem studio in Havana, Cuba.

What hurdles come with your eclecticism?
Getting it all to work as a song, and not sounding like a gratuitous mishmash of every type of music we can play. It's like making soup.
What's the ultimate Australian record?
My good friend Google took me to 'The Best Ever Australian Album.' It's got everything -- Crowded House, Paul Kelly, Mental as Anything.
Where does the band's name stem from?
From a drawing Felix's brother did at age seven.
