The Format, from Peoria, Arizona, consist of core members Nate Ruess and Sam Means, augmented by musicians both live and in the studio. Their sound has been referred to as 'desert pop.'
They released 2006's 'Dog Problems' on their own Vanity Label after being dropped by Atlantic, a topic they confront on the song 'The Compromise.'
Several of their songs have been featured in the MTV reality series 'Laguna Beach.'

What's this "desert pop" you've been termed?
I don't remember where it came from, but it's much better than "screamo" or "Long Island rock."
Have you had any actual dog problems?
My dogs love to be sick whenever I first get them. And one actually ran away.
You're big fans of 'Laguna Beach,' right?
I've never seen an episode -- I swear! But I once turned it on and our song was playing. I quickly turned it off.
