Five Facts About Billy Bragg

1. Bragg joined the British army in 1981 and left after 9 weeks.
2. Bragg got his first airplay after bringing mushroom biriyani and a demo tape to BBC radio's John Peel, who had just announced on air that he was hungry.
3. Bragg made a special guest appearance with British singer-songwriter Kate Nash at London's Elecric Ballroom in 2007, performing their respective hits 'A New England' and 'Foundations.'
4. Nora Guthrie, daughter of Woody Guthrie, asked Bragg to set music to her father's unrecorded lyrics, which ended up earning Bragg a Grammy nod.
5. The era of Margaret Thatcher turned Bragg into a "fully fledged socialist."
