6. Outback Uses Of Montreal's Song for 'Let's Go Outback Tonight'

Product: Outback Steakhouse

The Pitch: "I see our mission as being like a doctor. The young hipster is deprived of a basic food group -- red meat. Our goal is to get the kid to take his dosage. Wrapping the steak in sticky, sweet indie pop helps it go down good -- and stay down."

Lyrics You Don't Hear: The neo-psychedelic tune's original lines "Let's pretend we don't exist/Let's pretend we're in Antarctica" are replaced by "Let's go Outback tonight/Life will still be there tomorrow." OK, this one is admittedly improved by the new words.

Sellout Quotient: 6/10
Though indie rockers Of Montreal rerecorded the 2005 song themselves, it's hard to classify them as sellouts when more people have heard the Outback version.

Beyonce Responsibly

Of Montreal's 'Wraith Pinned to the Mist (And Other Games)' turned into a TV commercial song for Outback Steakhouse. It's in our 10 Cheesiest Rock Music Commercials countdown.
