3. Wendy's Uses the Violent Femmes' 'Blister in the Sun'

Product: Wendy's Spicy Chicken Sandwich

The Pitch: "OK, free-associate with me, people: What's hot like our Spicy Chicken Sandwich? Hot ...heat ... heat blisters -- hey, that's the ticket! Now find me a song -- any song -- about freakin' blisters!"

Lyrics You Don't Hear: In ignoring the words and using just the signature riff of the 1982 recording, the Wendy's folks pass up the opportunity to associate their foodstuff with activities like getting strung out and defiling your bed linens.

Sellout Quotient: 10/10
According to Femmes bassist Brian Ritchie, frontman Gordon Gano was the one who sold the song to the fast-food purveyors -- and Gano's a vegetarian.

Violent Femmes' 'Blister in the Sun' turned into a TV commercial song for Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers. It's number 3 in our 10 Cheesiest Rock Music Commercials countdown.
